Peter loves cardboard – his studio is filled with it. He cannot resist a voluptuous carton. Peter Sheehan also loves color and he really loves the way paint reacts with cardboard. Peter recently began incorporating cardboard into his canvas paintings. He says, “The colors in the areas around the cardboard started talking to me. They were jealous.” On a 56”x58” canvas he translates a small area of the color and begins from there. This dialogue between the cardboard and the color and the canvas has evolved into his latest series, simply called Recent Work. Peter Sheehan’s exhibition in Roost’s elegant gallery will include a dozen large canvases, some with cardboard and all with a dynamic dialogue between the colors.

Peter Sheehan holds an MFA from SUNY New Paltz with a major in sculpture (‘71). When he isn’t making art, he is farming or riding his horse.
