stories
March 16 - April 2, 2023
The DENIZEN Theatre and Roost Studios and Art Gallery, two local, non-profit organizations sharing a mission to build community through the arts, are excited to announce another visual and theatre arts collaboration.
It’s our goal to curate an exhibit that is in conversation with the play being produced in DENIZEN’s intimate, black-box performance space. As each new play is announced we are
calling upon the creative community to visually respond to the themes explored in their professional, theatre productions.

Proceeds are split between the artist and the nonprofits, DENIZEN Theatre and ROOST Studios hosting the exhibit.
ABOUT THE SHOW
AN ILIAD
By Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare
Based on Homer's The Iliad, translated by Robert Fagles
with Brian McEleney
featuring Erich Shoen-Rene on cello
The Trojan war and modern-day collide in this contemporary adaptation of Homer’s timeless
tale. In a tour-de-force performance, Brian McEleney stars as the lone storyteller fated to share
the same age-old story repeatedly throughout history. McEleney embodies a plethora of
characters as he recounts familiar tales of gods and goddesses, conflicts and battles, and
humanity’s unshakeable attraction to destruction, and chaos over the millennia. AN ILIAD will
blend storytelling with poetry and humor in a captivating theatrical experience featuring local
musician, Erich Shoen-Rene, on the cello.
“Spellbinding…AN ILIAD relates an age-old story that resonates with tragic meaning today” —
New York Times
“AN ILIAD is pure theater: glorious, primal and deeply satisfying.” —Time Out NY
“Explosive, altogether breathtaking…Brilliantly meshes past and present calamity, with touches
of the most caustic dark humor suddenly shifting into unimaginable pathos.” —Chicago Sun-
Times
“Intimate, unstuffy, timely, accessible—while preserving a sense of timelessness, and
grandeur, [AN ILIAD] enthralls and pierces your heart” —Seattle Times
