Pre-Teen Akimbo is a four week theatre class. Come play with us! Akimbo strives to create a safe space for girls to be and explore themselves. You can expect:
* improv games
* movement
* community
* sharing stories
* silliness
* skill-building
* fun

2) Akimbo Theatre class for teen girls ​

Tuesdays, April 9th-June 4th, 2019

(trans kids welcome)

8th-12th grade

4:00-6:00 pm


In this session of Akimbo, we will continue to play and hone our skills with improvisational theater games. We will spend time creating original theater around issues and experiences important to the actors. Students will participate in writing, staging, memorizing and performing scenes and monologues that pull from the silly and serious sides of their lives. Newcomers welcome!

Hannah Fox: Hannah recently left her job as a Professor of Dance and Theatre at Manhattanville College so she can teach locally full time. She is the founder of Big Apple Playback Theatre (BAPT) and the Director of the New York School of Playback Theatre ( She is a yoga teacher and a proud alum of the New Paltz Arts Community Youth Theatre.

Kristen Masson-Diedhiou: Kristen is a fifth grade teacher at J. Watson Bailey Middle School. She has used improv and theatre games to create classroom community for almost twenty years of teaching. She is also an alumni of the New Paltz Arts Community Theatre.

Hannah and Kristen are childhood friends and were early partners in imagination, dance, and drama. Both feel fortunate to have experienced youth theatre as a life-affirming, empowering part of childhood and adolescence. This class is the beginning of a longtime dream.
